Wrong_Way_Crash_on_Nassau_ExpresswayPolice are investigating a two-vehicle wrong-way driver accident early Friday that caused at least one serious injury and closed the Nassau Expressway in Lawrence for nearly 11 hours, Nassau County police said.

Newsday reports that the accident occurred at 2:35 a.m. near the Atlantic Beach Bridge and closed southbound lanes of the roadway, including the bridge, until almost 1:30 p.m. today to allow police to investigate. Police said southbound lanes were closed from Cedarlawn Avenue south to the toll plaza.

The accident happened when a vehicle driving north in the southbound lanes struck another vehicle, according to police. One seriously injured person was taken to a nearby hospital.  Police say a second person was also injured, but the injuries appeared to be less serious, Newsday reports. Police gave no other details on the condition of those injured.
