A 53-year-old Copiague woman suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a pickup truck with a plow attached to it on January 29.
Blanche Pope was struck by a 1989 GMC pickup truck with a plow attached to it as she was crossing New Highway in Copiague between 41st and 42nd Streets about 6:30 p.m. The driver of the truck, Alfonso Trotta, 58, of Farmingdale, was not harmed. Pope was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by helicopter, Suffolk police told Newsday.
The truck was impounded by police for a safety check. The investigation is ongoing, Newsday reported.
Earlier this month, John Santopolo, 65 was struck and killed by a 2011 Honda Crossover while crossing the intersection at Peninsula Boulevard and South Franklin Avenue in Hempstead. Santopolo was tossed into the roadway and struck by another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene. Santopolo was taken to a local hospital with serious head and internal injuries, and was later pronounced dead, according to NBC New York.
The driver of the second vehicle that struck Santopolo has still not been found.
