Suffolk County Police arrested an East Islip man on May 4 for driving while intoxicated after a two-car crash that killed an elderly Central Islip woman.

A 2011 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Charles Koukalenios, 29, crossed over into oncoming southbound traffic south of Spur Drive North in Central Islip around 3:30 p.m. The Camaro collided with a 2002 Buick Century driven by 84-year-old Mary Rogalle, according to LongIsland.com.

Rogalle was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. Koukalenios was also transferred to Southside Hospital where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries. Koukalenios was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date, LongIsland.com reported.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crimes Unit and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Bureau are asking that anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the incident make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers 1-800-220-TIPS or the Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crimes Unit at (631) 852-6555.
