A cement truck struck a mother and her two children as they were crossing the street in Corona, Queens. WABC reports that the accident occurred at the intersection of Junction Boulevard and 55th Avenue. The truck was headed south on Junction Boulevard and turning onto 55th Avenue when it hit the three pedestrians. Reportedly, the injuries were more severe in the mother than in the children. .
The three victims were treated at Elmhurst Hospital for their injuries. The driver of the cement truck is being interviewed by the police. No charges have been filed so far. A photo on WABC’s website shows what looks like a long skid mark from a cement truck’s right front tire at the scene.
About two weeks ago in West Babylon, a young single mother was killed while trying to retrieve her belonging after a car crash. According to News12 Long Island, the 25-year-old lost control of her 2006 Nissan Sentra at around 4 am on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 36. The woman was able to able to escape from the car after it flipped. Unfortunately, however, she was hit and killed by an oncoming vehicle while trying to return to get her possessions. News12 Long Island reports that people who had stopped to help her had urged her not to go back to the car. A police investigator said the driver who hit her did not see the woman or her vehicle because her lights were off.
