accidents_medford_LI_car_crashSuffolk County Police are investigating a car crash in Medford that killed a 16-year-old boy and injured three other teenagers.

According to CBS New York, a 2002 Toyota struck a tree and flipped over after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle around 1:20 a.m. Friday on Gray Avenue in Medford, police said.

The 16-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle, police said. He was brought to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, where he died.

The driver was a17-year-old who lived in Medford; there were also two other male passengers, ages 15 and 17, all taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, CBS New York reported.

The driver was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and the vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said.

Police aren’t sure if slick road conditions played a part in the accident, CBS New York reported.
