A bicyclist was injured after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Franklin Square. Nassau County police told Newsday that the accident happened on the Hempstead Turnpike at Commonwealth Street shortly after 7 a.m. The driver, who remained at the scene, was not injured, police said. While the extent of the injuries suffered by the cyclist was not immediately known, police said the person was “conscious and alert” after the accident, Newsday reported.

Meanwhile, Long Island police remain on the hunt for the driver of a hit and run accident in Mineola that left a pedestrian injured. The accident occurred near Jericho Turnpike and Congress Avenue around 9:00 on Friday, according to WABC News. Police say a vehicle struck a male pedestrian, crashed into another vehicle, and then sped away. The man was reportedly knocked out of his shoes, but his immediate condition was unknown. Witnesses say the vehicle was a gray Jetta. One witness told WABC News he tried to get the woman behind the wheel to pull over, but she sped off. A local shop owner along the busy road told WABC News he is not surprised that an incident like this happened at this location. He said vehicles are commonly traveling down the intersection at high speeds, while pedestrians are not crossing at the intersections.
